At the 2016 Star Wars Celebration, Edwards said the title had three meanings: "a military sign," referring to the Red Squadron from A New Hope; "the 'rogue' one" of the franchise, given it is the first film to not be part of the main saga; and a description of Jyn Erso's personality.[73]

Felicity Jones leads the ensemble cast as Jyn Erso, a petty criminal drawn into the Rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire. She's surrounded by a dust-streaked crew of small-time rogues and renegades played by Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Mads Mikkelsen. Among them, Donnie Yen is the standout as a blind monk who's a dab hand at roughing up stormtroopers even without a lightsaber.

While The Force Awakens catered to fanboys and the all important toy sales; Rogue One, well, goes rogue. Yes, we have a few familiar faces. Yes, there's mad homage to future events in New Hope.
