The Flex has a very convenient Volume up/down button on the side of the screen (technically, the button is on the front). It is completely independent of the touch screen itself. Therefore, when you press the button, this can be used to turn the screen brightness up or down, to be able to interact with the touchscreen on your device. Of course, this doesnt solve all your issues, but it is useful for when you want to be able to see the screen and activate an app or menu on your Flex, or just use the device.
You can also tap the touch screen to wake up the Flex when your carrying it in your pocket or bag. It should wake up quickly, but note that when the screen is activated, the Chrome browser will pop up and not go back to sleep for a few seconds.
If you have an Android TV, the Flex can also connect to it as a remote for controlling the TV by pushing touch screen commands to the TV. For example, you can push some touch commands and have the Flex turn the TV off, change channels, etc. While this is an interesting experiment, we found that it doesnt work as well as we would have hoped for control over a lot of things. For example, it didnt always turn the volume up or down when you pushed the volume up/down buttons on the touch screen (it would occasionally turn the volume up or down, but not always). It did not activate the channel up and down buttons when you pushed them (while pressing them does make the Flex go to a new channel on the TV, it does not work the way that the TV up and down buttons work in Android). We also noticed that it would occasionally let you control the volume on the TV, and then quickly reset the volume back to its lowest level. Since the Flex is constantly powered, this might be a bug in the Android TV that is not fixed. 3d9ccd7d82
